Wellington: the Man Behind the Name
I came across Scrabble for the first time at 14. I fell in love right away but it wasn't until 2002 that I played my first tourney. Initially, I only aspired to become the best player in Nigeria. It took me about 5 years to accomplish this and after representing Nigeria at the World Championship in 2007 and emerging in 3rd place, I knew I will not rest till I'm champion. The journey from then to 2015 was a treacherous one and were it not for sheer tenacity of purpose I'd easily have derailed. I even had to leave the game for 3 years (2011-2013). When the moment finally came in 2015 in Perth Australia, it took all of my essence to make it a reality.
On arriving home, I knew that the journey was just beginning. I set up the Wellington Foundation for Scrabble and Mind Development in Africa and I've been focused on the transformation of my continent through the instrumentality of Scrabble.
